Election of the Vice-Chair of the European XFEL Council

The European XFEL GmbH Council at its meeting on 19.2.2026 unanimously elected as its Vice-Chairman Assoc. prof. Ing. Karel Saksl, DrSc., Dean of Faculty of Materials, Metallurgy and Recycling, TUKE. Karel Saksl will take up his new position from 25.5.2026 for a period of two years. The European XFEL Council is the highest self-governing body of the European XFEL GmbH, a limited liability company under German law, with its registered office in Schenefeld (part of Hamburg), Germany. This is a significant recognition of the many years of contribution of Mr. Karel Saksl, as the Slovak delegate to the European XFEL Council, to the development of the European XFEL Facility. But also, it is a recognition of the significant position of the Slovak Republic during the construction (since 2009) and operation (since 2017) of this unique facility, which is a source of extremely hard X-ray radiation in the form of a laser beam www.xfel.eu.
