Slovakia as an observer in ELI ERIC

The Slovak Republic was officially admitted as an observer to the ELI ERIC (Extreme Light Infrastructure European Research Infrastructure Consortium) on 18 March 2026. The admission was decided by a vote at the ELI ERIC General Assembly in Budapest.

This step represents a significant milestone for the Slovak scientific and research community. The participation of the Slovak Republic in ELI ERIC will allow Slovak scientists and institutions to be more actively involved in excellent research in the field of high-performance laser systems and high-intensity physics. ELI ERIC is one of the most important European research infrastructures focused on the development and use of the most powerful laser systems in the world. The observer status represents an important step towards deeper integration of Slovakia into this prestigious scientific platform.

Representatives of the Slovak Republic, Dušan Lorenc, Monika Jerigová, both from the International Laser Center CVTI SR, and Robert Ševčík from the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology of the Slovak Republic, were pleased to accept the decision of the ELI ERIC General Assembly and expressed their interest in further strengthening cooperation, supporting excellent research, and developing international partnerships.
